Airbnb is a community site allowing users to rent out lodging to travellers worldwide. The company has grown rapidly over the last four years and is a testament to the growing appetite for the sharing economy. But that’s not why it’s been in the news recently. This is why:
Airbnb has received a facelift, complete with new logo. The redesign has been met with mixed reception, however. It’s been called a paperclip, a heart, and a host of other imaginative interpretations. But there’s more to the logo than meets the eye. Bélo (as Airbnb calls its design) is ‘the universal symbol for belonging.’ Airbnb is about openness and community – values Bélo is meant to communicate.
It’s interesting to see the company put the concept of the sharing economy at the forefront with its latest design changes. However, with the type of mentions and commentary online, it might take some time before bloggers pick up on this message.
