Climate change could cost the US billions of dollars if the country doesn’t act now, so says a new report. The study titled ‘Risky Business‘ outlines what lies ahead for America in a way that may better resonate with business: dollars and cents. We’ve heard the climate change story for some time now, but looking at it through an economic lens gives the story a new, terrifying perspective.
In a recent New York Times op-ed piece, Former US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson – one of the report’s backers – compares the US’ “business as usual” attitude to that of the 2008 financial crisis. However, this time inaction will lead to far worse consequences. To stop the impending disaster, the report calls upon government and the American business community to rise to the challenge.
So far the study has taken sustainability and environmental circles by storm with over 7.5 million impressions in one day and coverage from noted publications like the Wall Street Journal and TIME magazine. Will the US government and businesses take notice as well?
